Julie Vărgălui is a Los Angeles–based visual artist working at the threshold between object and presence, where function is removed and meaning is held.
Her work reclaims symbolic and sacred imagery, transforming both canvas and functional objects into contemporary icons. Faith, power, and survival sit at the core of her practice, explored through restraint, material weight, and silence.
She approaches furniture not as decoration, but as surface and structure — a place where meaning is carried, not applied.

My Approach
My approach is rooted in emotion — inspired by baroque intensity, contrast, and drama — translated into a contemporary language. I’m interested in how objects can carry weight, silence, and presence once their original function is stripped away.
Between 2025–2026, my focus is on transforming furniture into contemporary artworks that evoke feeling rather than utility.
